Maybe it's because it gets dark now at 4:30, and the holidays are just around the corner, but my perception is many of the weddings guests are attending this time of year are slightly more formal than the easy-summery events of just a few months past. If you're invited to a wedding - especially during the holidays -- my guess is that it is calling for slightly more formal and festive attire, or it may just be an outright black tie event.
