The holiday season is full of many hallmarks of the season, and to me one of them is the return of velvet! I love this fabric and texture for ribbon, shoes, bow ties, and dresses themselves. The window for wearing velvet seems fairly small, so I encourage everyone to make the most of it by wearing this plush and extravagant fabric as much as you can this season.

Here's one velvet dress in a lovely wine color that I've had my eye on since late fall. This gorgeous style is polished and lovely for office holiday parties, weddings, and nearly any semi-formal or dressy winter event.

You may have noticed that I'm becoming a fan of non-traditional styles for bridesmaid dresses, and I would love to see someone choose this velvet dress for the bridal party for their winter wedding, or a romantic style for Valentine's Day wedding. Can't you just picture it?

Since I like to make the most out of the velvet wearing season -- I'm even planning to wear some velvet jeans tonight -- I matched this dress with an assortment of more velvety accessories. Look closely, and you'll see the heels have a delicate velvet burnout pattern that is similar to the one on the clutch. It's finished off with some onyx and smokey gray accessories that have a subtle smolder of their own.
