We've been asked before if we think that all-over sequin dresses are appropriate for wedding guests, and We haven't given a fully definitive answer. If the event itself is so glamorous, so glitzy and everyone will be so dressed to the nines, that sequins will be practically expected, and you know the couple is so fun and carefree that they would love to see you sparkle, then by all means; wear that shiny dress! However, for other weddings where things are more low-key, if you think it might be too ostentatious to wear head to tow sequins, then it probably is.
Sequin Cocktail Dresses for Wedding Guests
In those cases, and for most wedding events, we say keep your sequins and beading subtle and perhaps part of a detail or overall pattern, but not enough to make you a human disco ball. After all, we know sequined bridesmaid dresses and beaded mother of the bride dresses are very popular right now, so let those roles stand out with this eye-catching fabric. However, if you really love sequins and want to wear them as a wedding guest, a dress like the dress above is a great way to go.
How to Accessorize a Short Sequin Dress
What is different here? Well, it's the elegant touches: the long sleeves, the midi-length, and the dark deep color of the sequins make this dress almost a conservative style, that it is miles away from a flashy sequin dress that should only be worn to a club or bachelorette party. While this dress would still be a bit overdone for a casual wedding, this would be just the thing for a formal winter wedding where festive winter attire has been requested.
We'd also wear it to any holiday parties you might be attending now, or any special occasion where tasteful and a bit of festive sparkle would be just the thing! This would also make a lovely choice for a mother-of-the-bride or groom who is always free to sparkle in my book!
