Skinny Ties for Weddings
This week's "ties for the guys" which usually happens on Tuesday, was bumped for our feature on Wed Altered, which is really worth checking out! So it's a Friday version of "ties for the guys", and we're talking skinny ties for weddings. My general rule for wedding attire for guests and for the wedding party is to keep it classic, and for a while now I've been trying to figure out if skinny ties qualify!

Slim Ties for the Guys
You see, I don't want anyone who follows the suggestions on this blog to look back on pictures and have a big "what was I thinking?" moment later on; but as much as I try to keep it classic, trends do come and go, and so it's almost inevitable that we might look back on things and think they look a little dated. On the best day, we might just get a kick out of how 2013 we were being! To my mind, the classic width tie has always been the more formal and safe choice for a wedding, but I'm now willing to give skinny ties a chance!
I'm so hesitant because I'm old enough to be seeing certain trends ( Hi there, '90s crop tops and '80s neon!) for the second time around and I'm a bit of a traditionalist. Skinny ties actually had their heyday in the 1950s and 1960s, and then again in the 1980s, so they might just be here to stay. Previously, I've kind of grouped them with a either a retro Mad Men look or "hipster" wedding when I've seen them online. However, every time I tune in to Jimmy Kimmel and see him looking elegant each night in his skinny ties, or see the latest crop of fellows on The Bachelorette wearing them and looking--well, sort of okay--and then I check out the venerable style at Brooks Brothers or J.Crew and see skinny ties--I start to think they might just be a classic and it's certainly time for me to give them a look!
As you'll see from the selections above, I've tried to pick a full rainbow of colors to go with any wedding outfit or color scheme for the grooms and groomsmen you might have planned - with hot colors like coral, emerald green, and lavender.( Some of them look regular size, but they are indeed skinny!)
My favorite look, is just basic black skinny tie like this or that sharp black and white striped tie (lucky #7). Check out this look to see what I mean for the overall look ( and get more ruminations on skinny ties ) As you'll see in the other choices, I tried to keep the pattern simple since we're being so crazy avant garde already with our skinny ties ( ok, that's just me - the traditionalist!) They are particularly perfect if you really do want that retro vibe, or a slightly more relaxed feel for your wedding party. Navy ties are a favorite too, and I just realized I didn't show enough ( guess what the next post will be 🙂 ?)
Who knows, maybe I'm on the completely wrong side of this: maybe we'll look back at traditional ties and think they were too wide! I can already tell that I'll be including them in more posts. Let me know your thoughts, are you having the groomsmen wear skinny ties at your wedding?
